EV etiquette for electric vehicle owners

30 Jan 2023 10 mins to read
Everyone knows that good manners are very important. Follow these basic rules and you will be the most popular electric car driver in your garage. 1 - Charging stations are designed for charging.
EV etiquette for electric vehicle owners
Summary:Of course, cars that are not charging should not be parked at charging stations. When you have finished charging the car, move it as quickly as possible so that it is available for the next driver. Few people think about waiting 10 minutes, but leaving a charged car in a parking lot for a few hours won't make you stand out from other EV drivers. some, such as Apps, allow you to create an online waiting list so you know when each driver's turn is due.

2 - Don't delay. Some drivers see car charging stations as parking spaces for electric vehicle drivers. It's not, and whether you've used the charger today or not, you can't use it as such. Also note that charging is very slow when the battery is over 80%. Making other drivers wait if you are 100% sure that the car is charged, you are doomed. Are cars parked there all day long, is there 10% there, is this an emergency? Remove the plug from the socket and use the charger. Another exception is if the vehicle has a sticker stating that it is removable. Placing these stickers on your machine is a great way to keep your goodwill if you know you're likely to forget to unplug your machine immediately.

4 - Keep the charging station clean. Do not leave the charging cable on the ground. Instead, wind the cable around and put the plug back in place, even if you can't find it that way. Cables lying on the ground present a trip hazard, are hazardous to the user, and can be hazardous to the garage or building. Do not leave trash such as cans or snack bags around the charger. One reason for buying an electric car is that it's better for the environment.

5 - Help other EV drivers. It is a good idea to inform other drivers about charger locations, traffic jams, charging and parking costs - sites collect this information and share it with their users. Unfortunately, most often these sites publish complaints that drivers have violated the first rule! Be polite and plug your car into an outlet when it's charged.

6 - If your neighbour has a charger, be aware that you are part of the charger. Turning on radios, screaming or loud conversations near charging stations, especially after 9 pm, can disturb your neighbours. This will lead to confusion. This behavior may lead to complaints, and multiple complaints may result in the removal of the charger.

Driving an electric car and caring for the environment does not give anyone the right to be rude. Remember that etiquette is important for everyone, and the ability to play in a team will never become obsolete. By following these rules, you will become the owner of the electric car that others park next to you. Get ready, get ready, get ready!

Don't forget to always be friendly and wave to any fellow EV drivers you might encounter.
Anyone else feel like some ICE drivers don't understand basic EV charging etiquette?

Electric cars are the future, but we need to make sure we're being respectful of each other and the environment.
I always try to park in regular spots instead of the EV ones, even if they're closer. Anyone else do this?

It drives me crazy when people use EV spots for their gas-powered cars. Have you no shame?
Does anyone else get annoyed by people who take forever to move their EVs out of the charging spot once it's finished charging?
Yo, fellow EV owners! Let's talk about EV etiquette!
Is it okay to unplug someone else's EV if it's fully charged and they're not around?
EVs are becoming more and more popular, so let's make sure we're setting an example for others to follow.
EV drivers should always be aware of their surroundings and make sure they're not blocking other cars or pedestrians.

Let's all make a conscious effort to be more courteous when driving our electric vehicles.
Remember, charging spots are for charging, not parking. Don't be that person!
Is it okay to park in a charging spot if you're just running a quick errand but won't be more than 15 minutes?
Honestly, it's just common sense not to park in an EV charging spot if you're not charging.
Why do some people feel like it's okay to unplug someone else's car when they're clearly still charging?
