The Electric Vehicle Chargers blog explained that hotels are benefiting from the rise in popularity of electric vehicles.

The electric vehicle market is growing rapidly in the US and around the world. Clearly, electric vehicles are the future of the automotive industry, and exponential growth has created a new industry closely related to this trend: electric vehicle chargers.
The Electric Vehicle Chargers blog explained that hotels are benefiting from the rise in popularity of electric vehicles.
Summary:Now that electric vehicles can travel long distances without recharging, the problem is no longer range, but the availability of recharging points.

To understand why hotels are ideal for electric vehicle chargers, it's important to understand the charging process and the fact that it bears little resemblance to the process of charging gasoline cars.

Types and characteristics of chargers for electric vehicles

While 90% of EV owners regularly charge their cars at home every evening, there is a growing demand for EV chargers outside the home. Due to longer travel distances, higher gas prices and higher airfare, EV owners are more likely to use their EVs instead of petrol vehicles when traveling.

Chargers for electric vehicles can be divided into three groups

Level 1 chargers provide 120V, equivalent to a household outlet. Typically, Level 1 chargers can provide a range of 5 miles on a one-hour charge. This is suitable for commuting, but may limit range on the road.

Level 2 chargers at commercial charging stations provide a range of 30-48 amps and a speed of 20-30 mph.

Level 3 devices provide more than 100 amps of current and a range of 3-20 miles per minute. Unfortunately, there are relatively few Level 3 chargers in the national infrastructure due to the need to use proprietary technologies and equipment.

It is important to add that the charging time depends on the size of the battery, the initial state of charge and weather conditions.

Why hotels are now adding electric car chargers

Chargers for electric vehicles in hotels are not a new idea. Marriott and Westin have been charging for years; Marriot has over 1,300 chargers scattered across the region, but EV chargers have been part of the elemental sector brand for eight years.

The hotel is the perfect location for a charging station, offering visitors the opportunity to charge just like they do at home. After a full day on the road, guests plug in and the car charges in the middle of the night while they sleep, ready to run when they go to bed. Increasing sales of electric vehicles and growing demand for chargers will also change the way visitors get to hotels. Forward-thinking hoteliers stay ahead of the curve and adapt to the demands of EV.

There are plenty of incentives to install EV chargers on properties, but perhaps the top priority is increased conscientiousness. By becoming the first or dominant supplier of new customer requirements, you increase your pomp and reputation, as well as having a beneficial effect on other sources of income such as restaurants and gift shops. In addition, the addition of a charger can create profitable organic marketing through Expedia, hotel.com, travel apps, navigation systems, and Google Ads.

What types of electric vehicles are more suitable for hotels?

The type(s) of charger(s) for each location will depend on the location, function and use of the hotel.

Most hotels opt for second level chargers. Level 2 chargers can deliver up to five times faster speeds than level 1 chargers. Given the average length of visitor stay, Level 2 chargers are the perfect combination of speed and value for city hotels and inns. metropolitan markets. Level 3 chargers, sometimes referred to as overburden chargers, can provide over 80% charge in 40 minutes. This type of charger is attractive to travelers stopping for lunch or rest on the road, as well as to owners of electric vehicles due to its rarity. In addition, Level 3 chargers are ideal for motorway hotels, restaurants and entertainment establishments. The difficulty with Tier 3 units is that they provide a 408V connection, which can cause mechanical problems.

Regardless of the type(s) chosen, the real challenge for the hospitality industry is to find a reliable and environmentally friendly manufacturer that offers technically advanced general purpose chargers and simple or effortless control systems.
